My Journey On Northern California Vacationup in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have a complete bias when it comes to talking about my favorite places in the U.S. Though I have traveled extensively around the country, I find myself yearning for a Northern California vacation wherever I might be living. Frequently I give advice to friends I meet you would like to visit the Golden State, and have provided different points of interests that are must-see’s if they decide to go.

The time of year that you go on a Northern California vacation is crucial if want to avoid the fog, rain and blustery winds that blow off the sea. An author once said, “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” Though parts of the state remain temperate all year round, this does not apply to northern half of the state. Spring and Fall are by far the most beautiful times to visit; the Spring bursting with cherry blossoms and poppies, with warm, clear May afternoons spent in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. In the Fall, the warm returns again, this time with a crisp wind that disperses all of the fog and brings autumnal colors to the Napa Valley wine country, making a Northern California vacation perfect during September/October time.

There are many things to see and do if you decide that you would like to spend your next vacation on the West Coast. Depending on your interests, you can pack your Northern California vacation with outdoor adventures, such as hiking, walking, biking, swimming, surfing, windsailing or camping. With Big Basin and Big Sur National Parks within a few hours drive, Stinson and China Beach in the San Francisco area, and the sweeping bay to provide all methods of water sports, the choices are endless.

Square, Chinatown, the Japanese Tea Gardens, Coit Tower and Fishermen’s Wharf are just several of hundreds of sites that can be discovered in the city. Some tourists never leave the city, but spend a large part of their Northern California vacation investigating all the haunts of writers, poets, musicians, leaders and dignitaries who left their indelible mark in the city.

If you would like to discover all the rich bounty produced from California sunshine during your Northern Californian vacation, the Napa and Sonoma counties, offer train tours of the wine country.
